Breathing Fitness

Why am I having breathing problems when my fitness is above average?
I play abit of Gaelic Football for my club reserve team....the pace of the games isn't the worst and I usually play footie, go to gym and go to club training every week but usually in the first 20 mins of matches I have heavy breathing and basically always need a '2nd wind' to be fine again. I'm usually fine thereafter and can run about no bother but why m I having these difficulties at the start of games but I'm fine at the end?
