Combat Sports Guards
Question about being an Engineer Officer in either the Army reserve or National Guard?? Ten Points?
I was thinking of possibly becoming a Engineer officer. I can become one in Pennsylvania since the main unit, the 28th Infantry Division, is mechanized, and is the only national guard unit that has stryker units. (I think)
If I chose to be an engineer officer, would I get to pick what i did in the career field such as commanding strykers, or some sort of combat position?
And is there any degree besides math that would help me with being an engineer, I currently am thinking something in sports medicine or music or something?
You could get an engineering degree and that would really help in being an engineer officer. You would not be able to pick where you go though. You can request different locations, but ultimately its the needs of the Army.
It is still possible to become an engineer officer with a different degree but it would not be guaranteed if you go through Army OCS. I am not entirely sure how it works with a reserve unit, although I think they choose before they go through any training.
In terms of a "combat position" you should choose something that is a combat MOS such as armor, artillery, or infantry. As far as I know being an infantry officer would be the easiest way to command a stryker platoon (which would be bad to the bone, strykers are bad mofos).
