how to support euphonium with only right hand?
Due to a car accident my left arm has limited motion making it difficult to hold my horn in proper playing position.
Before I answer, let me say I'm sorry for what happened, I'm sure its been difficult for you. Now, to help hold the instrument you have to think of two things, its height and its distance from your mouth. We sometimes forget how much the left hand supports the instrument in both ways, so to help with the height, I ask my students to make a small pillow to place on their knee to support the instrument. This takes a lot of pressure off the left hand. You can make a pillow out of anything. I went to my local Wal*Mart and got a small black towel. I rolled it up until it was a good size for me. I've had students get those small travel pillows for planes. Its a little more expensive, but it worked.
Remember, something black in case you have a concert. You want it to look nice, too!
This really should help with 90% of your support issues. The other 10% is keeping the horn close to your body. If you are still having trouble, there are some products that help support the horn. They are much more expensive than a wrapped up towel, but they do work. Here is a link to a video of one product, the Ergo Brass Support System
