Do U agree that Krav Maga is a way more realistic martial art than karate or tkd is?
been takin a few krav maga classes and compared to the karate and tkd classes i took in the past its such an eyeopener to how unrealistic any karate and tkd is .
im learning how to defend myself in realistic situations in my krav maga class , after 4 weeks in karate and tkd i was still doing basic techniques that are of no use in the real world

Like Aaron pointed out: Modern, so-called self defense systems like Krav Maga and traditional arts like karate use differing approaches for different goals. Also, remember that Krav Maga was born in wartime, and was later intended for training members of the Israeli military. Not that it makes it super effective or anything, but it was intended as a simple and sufficiently realistic hand to hand combat system to a group of physically fit and highly disciplined men and women who had to spend most of their training time in modern warfare skills and tactics. When this system is adapted for civilians, who train - at best - maybe 3 or 4 times a week, things like training duration and intensity need to be adjusted. Same thing with the claims about how realistic or effective it is.
A traditional art's approach is long term training to instill the basic principles of combat and self defense. If you train for years and still find the art useless, then either you're missing the point, or you have a bad instructor.
Think about it this way:
If self defense is the process of creating and running a computer network; modern self-defense systems like Krav Maga is like taking a Cisco-certification course, while traditional arts like karate is like going to university and majoring in computer science, with plans to get a masters degree in it later.
So: different approach, different methods, different training duration.
And if you want realism, look up the Senshusei course conducted by the Yoshinkan Aikido (Yup, that's right, the wimpy and completely unrealistic grab-my-wrist martial art) headquarters, or Shotokan karate classes held by JSDF. I hear beginners have to spend half an hour or so after class scrubbing off the blood stains from the mats.
