Martial Chi Hand

How to control adrenaline rushes during fights?

Ok, I'm just starting up a martial art; I'm trying my hand at Wing Chun Kung Fu and I may work myself into Tai Chi depending on how the schools seem in my area. Now, this may not be to do with Martial Arts per se as people tend to be able to control themselves in a sparring match, but when it comes to real life situation, where you're faced with someone who intends to hurt/attack you. As the question says, how do you learn how to control the adrenaline? Every time I've been in a fight I've been rushed with it and it's like a haze surrounding me, I can't control my actions and it's basically like instinct, on one hand I wont feel anything, yet on the other I can't think straight and my fighting is probably sloppy. Is it something that will fade off with experience or can you be trained to avoid the situation. Thanks.
It's not a bad thing as of yet, it's helped me manage to win in all the fights I've had, but I know if the other person was a composed fighter I'd be screwed.

Actually an adrenaline rush should exhilarate you... such as people who sky dive, white water rafting, bungie jumping, mountain climb, race cars... even ride on roller coasters. Normally people get a rush when doing these activities and some are even adrenaline junkies, also known as thrill seekers. They are confident in their own abilities and equipment... they are prepared to take on what is to come, and being so near to danger, find the adrenaline rush almost like a drug induced high.

If you have confidence in your equipment/ability then you won't be scared and will not be afraid of the "adrenaline rush". If you on the other hand knew that the tracks on the roller coaster was broken and you were about to die, then you have every right to be frightened.

You need to train harder, make your techniques a reflex reaction, if you are confident in your own ability the adrenaline rush would only help you, if you doubt your abilities the adrenaline will most probably turn into a healthy dose of fear.

If you've ever watch senior students practice Chi Sao, notice that often they will be talking casually while they practice. They try to keep the training casual to keep calm and without escalating their training into a serious confrontation. The more you train in this manner the easier it will be to control your own emotions in a confrontation.

If your school has the equipment for full contact sparing, make sure you get a chance to participate at every opportunity... the more comfortable you feel in any type of confrontation the easier it will be over time. -- Also read Sun Tzu, knowing yourself and knowing your enemy (opponent).
