book reader 16 grayscale simulate on netbook?

Lcd Gurus please help. I use my netbook mainly for reading docs. (pdf & chm). ebook readers are easy on the eyes so I say why not try to simulate (as close as possible) the ebook reader experience on my humble netbook or laptop. The specs on the Kindle say it is a 16 level gray scale screen. How do I get this setting using my right click-> display properties. Dont see any setting that says display in good ole black and white , 16 level grayscale etc... Any third party apps that will do the job ? . If its out there I dont know what keywords to search on. thank you

I'm sorry, but the screen of the Kindle uses different technology from the lcd screen on netbook. The Kindle uses e-ink which is similar to the screen of watch, and it is not back-lit. For screen of netbook, it is back-lit. They are completely different technology. You can read here for more about it:

It will not be good to eyes if you look at the screen of netbook for too long. I think you may consider to get the Kindle, as it is now cheaper since Amazon slashed its price. I remember I read these reviews when I decided to get mine:
