Are wooden training weapons legal in Australia?
I want to buy some bokken or shinai online for kendo practice and maybe a wooden gladius too. Is it legal to import wooden training weapons?
Australian customs is very strict about weapons
I don't know about the gladius, but if you are serious about the bokken and shinai, you can order them locally through OnlineKendo.com, they are a melbourne based company that imports the goods into the country. Our dojo uses them for club equipment.
That said, if you buy bokken or shinai from overseas, like the US/Japan/Korea, generally it will be okay so long as they declare it to be wooden items etc. Customs have no problems with it in that they can quarrantine it or treat it if it doesn't meet their standards.
I've imported shinai both from the US (e-bogu) and Japan (Sankei).
