Why do Cung Le fanatics insist that he could survive and even win a battle w/ Anderson Silva or Lyoto Machida?
I've come across a few forums where Cung Le fans say that Le's striking ability surpasses those of both The Spider and The Dragon. When people remind them that both Brazilians have BJJ black belts (and Silva also holds a Judo black belt), they say Le's takedown defense is too good for those skills to matter.
What evidence is there to support claims that Le could win? I have seen all of Cung's MMA fights and a most of his K-1 fights. I've seen amazing striking and some good Judo style Ippons (in kickboxing matches no less). I've never seen any ground game.
During the Frank Shamrock fight, when Le tripped him and waited for him to stand up, Frank motioned for Le to come down and enter his guard. Le shook his head no. I assumed this was because Le didn't want to chance his Jiujitsu against Franks. However, Cung Le fans tell me that Le wasn't scared or unskilled but rather believes it to be dishonorable to hit an opponent when he is down. Is there any truth to that either?
Cung Le is a greater fighter, but past his prime. He hasn't fought top level competition for a long time. He's pretty much retired and is too rusty to beat Machida or Silva.
