Does anyone practice Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan? Or anything related?
Hey, i took tae kwon do when i was younger and i was looking to start up martial arts again, and i was wondering to learn more about Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan, and your experiences with it. Thank you!
Moo Duk Kwan was one of the kwans that came directly from Shotokan Karate out of Japan. When they developed Tae Kwon Do the Moo Duk Kwan group chose to be left out and eventually began to be known as Tang Soo Do but in reality it is just a Korean adaptation of Shotokan Karate. Tang Soo Do uses some of the Shotokan kata and has a more balanced approach to both fighting and self defense including almost an equal use of hands and feet.
There are some great Tang Soo Do schools around but they are getting more scarce and hard to find since many are heading into the realm of mcdojang world where they will put a black belt on anyone...but like I said you will need to do your research and look for a good dojang to join...or you could find a Shotokan dojo and just learn the art that predated it. Regardless if you find a good instructor you should learn a lot. Good luck.
